Passivhaus in Girona: a session on NZEB construction in the Mediterranean

The Girona Surveyors' Association and the PEP Platform present the Passivpalau home within a cycle of sessions preparing for the 7th Spanish Passivhaus Conference.

At PAPIK Group we maintain a sustained commitment to sharing the Passivhaus standard and to the work of the Spanish Passivhaus Building Platform (PEP). This time the venue is Girona, with Passivpalau as the common thread, one of the certified Passivhaus houses with the best results in the country.

Girona and the potential of efficient construction

Girona holds notable potential for efficient, ecological and sustainable construction. Its landscape and its respect for the surroundings call for homes capable of letting us enjoy nature without harming it. This is the objective we pursue when we build passive houses: sustainability, savings and comfort, measured and verified.

Passivpalau, a Mediterranean passive house

The session presents the single-family home Passivpalau through its various authors: owners, architects and builder. They each recount the experience of a house built to criteria of high energy efficiency, comfort and bio-habitability in the Mediterranean climate, a context in which the standard demands specific design decisions.

The session: NZEB-Passivhaus, current projects in Catalonia

The Girona Association of Surveyors, Technical Architects and Building Engineers and the PEP Platform are organising the session "NZEB-Passivhaus: Current projects in Catalonia", on Tuesday 13 October at 6.00 pm, at the Association's premises (Sta. Eugènia, 19, 17005 Girona). It is the fourth event in a cycle of preparatory talks for the 7th Spanish Passivhaus Conference, scheduled for November 2015, with complementary events in other provinces of Catalonia during the preceding months.

Programme

  • 6.00 pm · Introduction by the Association of Surveyors, Technical Architects and Building Engineers, with Amadeu Escriu, technical architect.
  • 6.20 pm · PEP Platform: current Passivhaus projects.
  • 6.30 pm · "Passivpalau, a Mediterranean passive house", with Eva Jordan (architect), Jordi Bolao and Mónica Vela (owners) and Joan Vilanova (technical architect); and "The NZEB challenge for the builder", by Papik Fisas, passive-house builder.
  • 7.40 pm · Questions and debate.
  • 8.00 pm · Closing of the event.

For those unable to attend, our intention is to return to Girona soon so that a Passivhaus can be seen and touched at first hand. Sharing the standard is part of the same work we apply both to new build and to energy retrofit.

Bringing Passivhaus to Girona is not a theoretical exercise: each session moves owners, architects and builders closer to a way of designing that already delivers verifiable results on the ground.
